Here is the bad news when it comes to attorneys and using the “family” lawyer. Suppose you and your sibling are in a dispute over your deceased father’s estate. Perhaps you feel that you are entitled to more because you took care of him in his final years. Whatever the reason, the problem can arise when both of you want to use the same lawyer because he or she is the family lawyer.
Not everyone will need to know, or ever use probate lawyers in their lifetime. That is a great thing because it means that they will never be involved in a dispute over the earthly possessions of a dearly departed family member. But if you ever find yourself in that particular situation, then at least you will know where to turn for advice on your particular case. Make it your goal to find an attorney this year and develop a good working relationship with him or her.
