Manual Wheelchairs And Power Wheelchairs Compared

There is great debate between manual wheelchairs and powered wheelchairs. However, the choice between the two depends strictly on what one feels is best for them and their lifestyle. The good news is that no matter what type of chair a person chooses, they have varieties in both areas. A good place to begin the quest for the perfect chair is the internet.

The advantages of manual wheelchairs far outweigh their disadvantages. When looked at in comparison to power chairs, manual chairs are lighter and easier to handle than a bulky power chair. This can be better for those who are physically challenged strength wise. Power chairs are also hard to maneuver on certain terrains, but a manual wheelchair is smaller and more agile, therefore making them easier to operate. After all, wheelchairs are meant to help people, not provide them with more difficulties to overcome.

One of the main disadvantages of using manual wheelchairs has to do with the upper body. Yes, the exercise is good for those who push themselves, however, over time this same motion can lead to injury; something that wheelchair users try to avoid whenever possible. Other disadvantages of a manual is having to inflate the tires and keeping the body of the chair in line. Many factors must be considered before a person can choose between a manual or a power chair.

Manual wheelchairs may be old school, but sometimes the old way is the better way. In this case, a manual chair can far outweigh the advantages of a power chair. With their lightweight size and maneuverability, a person can easily see why a manual wheelchair is the best bet. However, a person should do their own research on the internet in order to make the best possible choice for their life and home. The more choices, the better; especially for those who are physically challenged.
